CSL Health and Safety Policy Statement

At Creative Spaces London, our job is to ensure that all students have a safe environment in which to work. We recognise and accept that we have a responsibility as an Employer and Facilitator to provide safe and healthy work places and working environments for all Employees and Clients.

In addition, we understand and take responsibility for ensuring our activities do not endanger the health and safety or welfare of either members of the public or our working partners on any site we engage with. This Policy Statement is published in accordance with the Creative Spaces London's responsibilities under Section 2(3) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (the Act). Complementary UK and European Legislation accepted.

Management Responsibilities

Creative Spaces London considers Health and Safety to be a prime responsibility of management and, in order to comply fully with obligations under the act and with the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1992, will pay particular attention to;

  1.  the appointment of sufficient competent persons to ensure compliance with all statutory requirements for health and safety at work;

  2.  the provision and maintenance of any place of work which is under Creative Spaces London’s control (as well as the means of access and egress) in a condition that is safe and free from risks to health;

  3.  arrangements for ensuring safety and absence of risk to health in connection with the handling, operation, storage, transport and use of articles, equipment, machines or substances;

  4. the provision of such information, instruction, training and supervision as is necessary to ensure the competence of its employees and subsequent young people in respect of their health and safety at work.

Staff Responsibilities

Creative Spaces London understands that it is the duty of all Directors and Facilitators to ensure that the necessary safety precautions are taken before sessions and that the necessary safety instructions are given during their implementation. Failure to discharge such a duty can render any of these individuals liable to prosecution.

All Staff are aware that the Act requires that they bear responsibility for all measures taken to comply with statutory provisions and any other health and safety requirements demanded of Creative Spaces London to;

  • use properly the means and facilities provided to ensure health and safety at work;

  • refrain from wilful misuse of, or interference with, anything provided in the interest of health, safety and welfare;

  • refrain from any action that might endanger themselves or others.

  • ensure clients within their care are properly trained to work safely within environments and with one another.

Failure to comply with the Policy may leave Staff subject to action under Creative Spaces London’s disciplinary procedures.

To achieve the aims and objectives specified in this statement, a standard risk assessment form is to be adhered to for any site specific trips and new working environments. These should be signed off by Artistic Director Rachel Doherty on rachel@creativespaceslondon or Taz Virdee on taz@ccwl.org.uk. This policy should be adhered to by all Creative Spaces London employees and clients.

This policy will be reviewed on an annual basis and revised when necessary.
